Family Medicine Faculty + Residents

The Family Medicine Faculty

The attending staff is diverse, with faculty members playing essential roles in resident education and experience. There is full-time attending staff in pediatrics, sports medicine, surgery, geriatrics, and behavioral science.  A unique feature of our program is our ongoing effort to foster a sense of cooperation, teamwork and support among our faculty.

Jan Notch, Program Coordinator

Jan Notch joined our program in 2008 after thirteen years as the Program Coordinator for Exempla's Ob/Gyn Residency Program. Jan's favorite time of year is interview season as she looks forward to meeting all the friendly, engaging, and well-dressed medical students who come through.  She states "I love working with residents. I can't imagine a friendlier, more supportive environment to work in." Jan is a third generation native of Colorado with an Associates Degree from Red Rocks Community College. She has three grown sons and a large extended family in Colorado she loves to get together with.  Her other interests are science fiction (books & movies), traveling, knitting & crocheting.

 

Drew Jones, Program Director

Dr. Drew Jones

Dr. Jones grew up in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  After majoring in history at Yale University, he returned to his home state for medical school and graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. Dr Jones stayed at OU as a resident and then a faculty member from 2002 to 2005 in the OU Family Medicine Residency Program.  He completed a Primary Care Faculty Development Fellowship at Michigan State University in 2002-2003.  His research interests include resident evaluation, curriculum design, hypertension, quality improvement in healthcare, and the history of medicine.  He is an avid swimmer and enjoys music, reading, movies, hiking and travel. Katie Seitz, Associate DirectorDr. Katie Seitz

Dr. Seitz grew up in Phoenix, Arizona.  She is a big Wildcat fan, having attended the University of Arizona for both college and medical school.  After graduating from the ESJH Family Medicine program in 2005 she did locum tenens, working as a small town doc in several Colorado  locations.  Specific medical interests include international medicine, women's health, and emergency care.  She enjoys traveling, hiking, snowboarding, salsa dancing and spending time with family and friends.

Cary Clarke, Clinical FacultyDr. Cary Clarke

Dr. Clarke is a Denver native, who graduated from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and trained at St. Francis Family Medicine in Wichita, KS. 

Her interests lie in Women's and Children's Medicine, and she loves the comprehensive cross section of our residency population. She is with us part time, and is having a great time balancing teaching and starting her own practice.   

 

Dr. Bill FosmireBill Fosmire, Clinical Faculty

Bill is a graduate of the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and completed his residency at the University of Missouri - Kansas City in 1988. Following residency, Bill served as the Director of Student Health at University of North Texas, and taught a pre-medical course in infectious diseases as an adjunct professor in the Department of Biology. Bill joined the Family Medicine Residency in 1993 as a member of the clinical faculty, and completed a two-year research and faculty development fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 1996. His interests are in Evidence-Based Medicine and clinical guideline development, and he is involved with ongoing activities with the Colorado Clinical Guidelines Collaborative.  In his spare time, Bill enjoys biking, hiking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing with his family.

Aaron Gale, Clinical FacultyDr. Aaron Gale

Dr. Gale was born and raised in Fort Collins, Colorado.  From there he moved to Saint Paul, Minnesota where he majored in biology at Macalester College.  After working in an educational biology lab for a year he set out to explore other fields of interest, including community supported agriculture, wilderness travel, and Spanish language.  During that time he spent accumulated months, if not years, in the deserts of Utah, the mountains of Colorado, and traversing the country of Mexico.

Six years after getting his BA he returned to his home state to go to medical school at the University of Colorado and recently finished his residency right here at Saint Joseph Hospital.  His previous job was mainly patching up mountain bikers in Winter Park, but now he is back pursuing his interests in obstetrics, office based procedures, and care for underserved populations.  When not working he hikes and backpacks with his wife, mountain bikes and skis with his friends, and avidly plays country blues guitar.

 

Dr. Deb JacobsonDeb Jacobson, Sports Medicine

Deb is a primary care sports medicine physician. She completed her residency training in family medicine at Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital in 2001 and then went on to complete a sports medicine fellowship at Ohio State University  where she gained invaluable experience in caring for athletes of all levels with musculoskeletal injuries.
 
In addition to seeing patients in private practice, Deb holds a part-time faculty position and is the Director of Sports Medicine at Exempla Saint  Joseph Family Medicine Residency Program.  Deb’s team physician duties include supervising the residents at a local high school where they provide training room and event coverage.  She is also a team physician for the Colorado Mammoth, men’s professional indoor lacrosse team.
 
Sports medicine is the perfect way for Deb to combine her medical career with her love for sports.  Deb grew up playing many sports and then went on to play basketball at the University of Colorado from 1988 to 1992.
 
During her free time Deb is trying hard to  improve her golf game.  She also enjoys traveling, hiking, mountain biking and cooking.

Roy Jared, GeriatricsDr. Roy Jared

Dr. Jared completed a concurrent M.D. and M.P.H. program at the University of Washington,  Seattle, after graduating from the Air Force Academy and spending five years as an Air Force pilot. He completed his residency training at Saint Joseph Hospital in 1982 and remained with the program. Dr. Jared received his CAQ in geriatrics in 1992 and is also interested in occupational medicine. He is the physician manager of the  SAGE geriatric program and medical director for Children's Hospital Employee Health Services.

Blaine Olsen, Clinical Faculty 

Dr. Olsen hiking in rough terrainDr. Olsen was born in Denver and grew up in Littleton, Colorado.  He spent his undergraduate years at Colorado College in Colorado Springs and then moved to Denver to attend the Unversity of Colorado School of Medicine. 

After spending four years in private practice in Denver, he returned to Saint Joseph Hospital's faculty, where he trained and graduated in 2003. 

Dr. Olsen speaks Spanish and, while practicing the full spectrum of family medicine, has special interests in pediatrics and sports medicine.  In his spare time he enjoys spending time outside with his wife, daughter, and their dog.

Walt Schreibman, Behavioral ScienceWalt Schreibman

Walt Schreibman is a graduate of Purdue University. He joined the Family Practice faculty at Saint Joseph Hospital in 1981, directing the Behavioral Science Program. He conducts classes and consults with residents on issues related to the psychological aspects of patient care. Walt has been a professor of psychology at Red Rocks Community College for 28 years. There he has developed and taught courses in child psychology, general psychology and  psychotherapy.

Ryan Honey, Clinical Faculty and Maternity Care Fellow

Ryan Honey is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, and graduated from the Saint Joseph Family Medicine Residency Program in 2009. He is currently the first Family Medicine graduate to participate in an Obstetrical Fellowship here at Saint Jospeh Hospital. In addition he serves as clinical faculty for our family medicine residency. In his spare time, Ryan keeps active with skiing, running and other outdoor activities.
