Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital Graduate Medical Education Residency program uses ONLY the ERAS system (Electronic Residency Application System) for each year's application process and match. This service necessitates electronic applications only. Please contact ERAS for more information on the application process.
Residency Application Information
The following information is required for your application to be accepted for review:
- Personal Statement
- Dean's Letter
- Medical school transcript
- Three letters of recommendation; one of these must be from a practicing, Board Certified physician.
If you have postgraduate training, a letter of recommendation and/or evaluation from the program director is also required.
All applicants are encouraged to visit Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital, tour our facilities, review the program, and meet with the Program Director, Faculty physicians, and the current residents.
International Medical Graduates
Scores on the USLME I&II must be 205 or greater and successful passage of the CSA examination. International Medical Graduates must have some inpatient internal medicine experience (eight week mininmum) in a U.S. Hospital on an inpatient service during which notes and orders are written. Applicants must be within 4 years of graduation from medical school. All positions are considered through ERAS and determined through the NRMP. Successful applicants are assisted in obtaining J-1 and H-1 visas.
Clerkship Applications
The following information is required for your application to be accepted for review:
- Letter from your Dean indicating you are enrolled and in good standing, and have permission to take the elective
- Verification of worker's compensation and health insurance
- Verification of malpractice insurance
- Verification of TB testing and immunization status.
International Medical Graduates may apply for clinical clerkships during spring from February through May. We offer four week rotations on general Internal Medicine ward teams, and oncology teams.
All applicants must pass the USMLE I and USMLE II examinations with a score of 205 on the first attempt, as well as the English exam. A current curriculum vitae must accompany your application as well as a letter of recommendation from a previous rotation in the United States, or a letter from your current program. Housing is available at Saint Christopher House as detailed below. We do not offer observerships.
Visiting Students
Participation in a 4th year clerkship is allowed for visiting students on a space available basis with University of Colorado medical students receiving priority placement.
Prior to approving your subinternship rotation, there is a pre-requisite of two months of inpatient ward experience, one of which must be in Internal Medicine. We require a letter of recommendation from a preceptor on that Internal Medicine month stating that you have completed the rotation and are competent to write progress notes and orders, and documentation from your school that you have completed all of your 3rd year clerkships.
Housing and Parking
Housing is available adjacent to the hospital at the Saint Christopher House, 720-917-9900. Parking is included.
