Our Team is Here for You
"New advances are being made every day in our fight against cancer. Our Radiation Oncology team at Lutheran strives to provide the highest possible level of cancer care." Dr. Wendy Nekritz, Director of Radiation Oncology, Exempla Lutheran Medical Center.
Our physicians and support staff are focused on early detection, cancer treatment, and prevention.
This team of professionals has made cancer treatment their mission in life - striving to significantly improve patient outcomes by approaching each person as an individual rather than a diagnosis. They form a partnership with each patient, their families, and the community to bring the highest level of expertise, clinical experience and compassion available.
The Center Offers:
CT Simulation and Cone Beam CT Simulation - Our new simulator uses x-ray images and/or Computed Tomography (CT) to image our patients. These high-resolution digital images are used to create a personalized plan for each patient to ensure accurate setup, precise treatment and patient safety.
Image Guided External Beam Radiation Therapy (IGRT) - Our advanced technology linear accelerator precisely directs high energy x-rays at tumors to destroy cancer cells. This on-board imaging verifies treatment to the correct target and ensures patient safety. A multileaf collimator shapes the x-ray beams to match the border of the target tumor - an important tool to ensure accurate radiation dose delivery.
Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)- IMRT treatments are highly precise treatments which also benefit from the more accurate patient positioning of our new on-board imaging linear accelerator. This form of treatment uses very focused and complex beam shapes to allow higher doses to be delivered to the treatment area while restricting the dose to critical organs.
Brachytherapy - This method of radiotherapy treats cancer from the inside out.
High dose rate brachytherapy (HDR) is used in conjunction with temporary catheters, which provide a path for radiation treatment. The radiation is only present in the patient during the actual treatment. This can be used in the treatment of breast cancer and may also be used for the treatment of cervical and lung cancers.
Low dose rate brachytherapy (LDR) is used to treat prostate cancer with the permanent implantation of radioactive "seeds".
