Mother and Daughter Mural Painting Team Volunteer their Artistic Skills to the Breast Care Center
Dr. Jacqueline Shuler, mother, holds a Doctorate in Art Education from Carnegie Mellon University and teaches Digital Photograpy and Graphic Design at local Rock Canyon High School.
Following in her mother's footsteps and graduating from the University of Colorado in Fine Arts, Stephanie Sitkewich currently expresses her artistic ability in Landscape Design at Environmental Designs, Inc.
Dr. Shuler has been free of cancer for just over 10 years.
To celebrate this, she and her daughter volunteered to paint two murals in the Breast Care Center, which is a part of the Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Center, in hopes of reaching, touching and brightening the lives of others facing personal challenges.
"Mostly, we just wanted to spend time together painting, in a creative and healing atmosphere...where we don't just heal ourselves during the therapeutic process...but the painted imagery passes on our constructive energy, hope and faith to all onlookers...it's like prayer--without the words" .
says the mother-daughter team in a recent interview.
