On Sunday, June 6, 2010, Lutheran Medical Center Foundation hosted its third annual Leaves of Hope at Exempla Lutheran Medical Center in conjunction with National Cancer Survivors Day Ò activities. Lutheran Medical Center Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is the fundraising arm for the Cancer Center at Exempla Lutheran Medical Center.
With support from the Lutheran Medical Center Foundation Board of Directors, physicians, corporations and individuals, the foundation is excited to continue this new tradition. Leaves of Hope is the kick-off event for the annual National Cancer Survivors Day celebration, a longstanding tradition that brings together cancer survivors to celebrate the gift of life with their families, friends, and the staff who cared for them. Thanks to amazing community generosity and support and the participation of over 800 runners, walkers, survivors and volunteers, the 2008 and 2009 Leaves of Hope Run/Walk raised over $84,000 for cancer programs at Lutheran Medical Center.
Leaves of Hope winds through the scenic tree-lined Exempla Lutheran Medical Center campus and through Wheat Ridge. It includes a 5K certified race for both runners and walkers and a 1-mile family fun walk. Strollers and dogs on leashes are welcome.
BKB, Ltd. manages the race and Hallucinations provides timing and official race results. The event attracts elite runners, recreational walkers and runners, and families. Awards in the 5K will be given to the overall male and female, then the top two males and top two females in age groups 12 and under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over.
