Your case may be reviewed by a multidisciplinary breast cancer team. The team includes every specialty that may be necessary for your care:
- Patient navigator
- A fellowship-trained breast surgeon
- General surgeons
- Medical oncologists
- Pathologists
- Radiation oncologists
- Radiologists
- Plastic surgeons
- Manager of clinical trials
- Lymphedema Services
The team will review your diagnosis and consider all the options for your treatment that meet national guidelines for cancer care and follow-up care. You will have a complete range of options to consider:
- Chemotherapy infusion
- Image-guided radiation
- Brachytherapy that uses radioactive implants in tumors and along with Mammosite therapy, can reduce treatment time to as little as five days
- Clinical trial programs that include the latest approaches in cancer treatment
Once the team has fully considered your particular cancer and have reached consensus on the options that make the most sense for you, your physician will confer with you.
Together, you will choose a treatment plan that makes the most sense for you. And that can include choosing not to undergo treatment at all. The final choice, of course, is always yours. It is your body and we will support any decision you make.
