Nutrition is a key component to your health and your cancer fight. Research has shown that maintaining a level of good nutrition during treatment can improve outcomes and quality of life. At the Exempla Saint Joseph Comprehensive Cancer Center, an experienced Registered Dietitian is available to help meet your nutrition needs.
Nutrition therapy is important to:
- Maintain a healthy body weight
- Preserve lean body mass
- Maintain strength and ability to fight infection
- Tolerate treatment and avoid interruptions to treatment
- Reduce nutrition-related side effects
- Answer questions related to vitamins, minerals, and herbs
- Guide meal planning for optimal nutrition

When should you contact a Cancer Dietitian?
You do not have to wait until you are referred by your doctor. We are part of your cancer care team and available to help at any time before, during and after your cancer treatment.

Nutrition assessment to help you set goals for good nutrition during treatment

Nutrition counseling to help with managing symptoms of side effects from cancer treatments

Nutrition support such as tube feedings or TPN (total parenteral nutrition)
