What is a Medical Oncologist?
A doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating cancer using chemotherapy, hormonal therapy and biological therapy. A medical oncologist often is the main health care provider for someone with cancer. A medical oncologist also gives supportive care and may coordinate treatment given by other specialists.
Larry A Schafer MD
Dr Schafer has been practicing in the Denver Metro area for over 25 years. He received his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis MO. He did his Internship and Residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, where he was the Chief Resident and an instructor in Internal Medicine. He has completed two fellowships, one in Infectious Disease and one on Tumor Immunology and Immunotherapy. Dr Schafer is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. He has been an Associate Professor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center since 1989.
Robert E Swaney MD, MSPH
Dr Swaney has worked continuously in cli nical medicine for nearly twenty years. He is a Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha graduate of the University of Michigan and completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr Swaney completed his medical oncology and hematology training at the Arizona Cancer Center (University of Arizona) in Tucson He was an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado, where he provided high quality, personal medical care in a busy academic practice and taught in preventive medicine, especially cancer screening and prevention. He completed a faculty fellowship in internal medicine, as well as a Masters in Science of Public Health (MSPH) degree, and was the Education Liaison for the Colorado chapter of the American College of Physicians for four years.
